Licensing

Generated licenses are required for local on-prem DSim use. They are intended for individual use only.

On-prem licenses are not required to access Metrics DSim Cloud features, including running simulations in the cloud.

Only one license can be valid at a time. Currently, licenses are valid for 90 days.

Licenses can be administered from your DSim Cloud Portal.

Viewing Licenses

DSim Desktop

If you do not have a license installed, a warning symbol appears beside your DSim installation under LOCAL TOOL INSTALLATIONS of DSim Desktop.

To generate a license, hover over your DSim installation and click Manage Licenses.

If required, allow Visual Studio Code to open the external website. Jump to Generating Licenses.

When a license is installed, a check mark appears beside your DSim installation under LOCAL TOOL INSTALLATIONS of DSim Desktop.

To manage existing licenses, hover over your DSim installation and click Manage Licenses.

If required, allow Visual Studio Code to open the external website. Jump to Managing Licenses.

DSim Cloud Portal

Click Licenses under the Profile icon of DSim Cloud Portal.

If you do not have a valid license, jump to Generating Licenses.

If you have a valid license, jump to Managing Licenses.

Generating Licenses

1. If you do not have a valid license, you can generate one by clicking Generate.

2. Give your license a descriptive name and click Generate.

The creation and expiration times of your generated license are displayed.

Installing Licenses

The generated license can be installed automatically or manually.

Automatic Installation

Automatic installation of the license requires DSim Desktop.

1. Click the Install license using DSim Desktop icon.

2. If required, allow the app to open Visual Studio Code.

3. Check the status of your license under Viewing Licenses.

By default, the licenses are installed to the following paths:

• Windows: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\metrics-ca\dsim-license.json
• Linux: $HOME/metrics-ca/dsim-license.json

Manual Installation

Manual installation of the license can be done if you want to copy the license to use it on another machine. You can use the same license on multiple machines, but only one machine at a time can run DSim.

1. Click the Download license icon.

The license file dsim-license.json will be downloaded to your default Downloads folder.

2. Move or copy the license file dsim-license.json to the following location on the machine you wish to use DSim and have already installed it:

• Windows: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\metrics-ca\dsim-license.json
• Linux: $HOME/metrics-ca/dsim-license.json

3. On that machine, check the status of your license under Viewing Licenses.

Managing Licenses

Only one license can be valid at a time. To obtain a new license, you must first revoke the current one.

1. Click Revoke license beside your current license.

2. Confirm that you want to revoke your current license.

3. Check the status of your licenses under Viewing Licenses.

Proxy Servers

As of DSim 20240422.4.0, licensing supports proxy servers. If you use a proxy server, set the environment variable https_proxy to the address and port of your proxy server. For example, for a proxy server that is is configured on the local host to use port 8080, set the https_proxy variable to the string https://127.0.0.1:8080.
